About Me

I am at Florida State College Jacksonville in the Office of Learning Services. I lead the custom learning solutions for our new small business unit Global Education Learning Solutions GLS. I enjoy presenting at various conferences on my work and research interests. Currently I am very interested in mobile e-books, immersive exploratory learning objects, offline synchronizing LMS technologies, and situated cognition. Additionally, I am experimenting with ways immersive virtual environments such as Second Life may be used to support teaching and learning. One fascinating book I recommend for those interested in virtual worlds is Synthetic Worlds by Edward Castronova. Last year I completed a multiple case study exploring student learning experiences with mobile e-books, with a particular focus on situated learning and am interested in the learning applications of social media.....

Education Student Grades #aln2011

Good morning students!  For those of you who are in my fall EME2040, EEX4201, and EEX4231 I am posting this to let you know I am working on your grades all this week.  So if you are missing a grade please do not worry or email me, I will be getting them all done by Friday.

Having just got back from the Sloan C distance learning conference in Orlando last week I can definitely say I am exhilarated and energized with new ideas and vigor!  What a great conference, there were so many great presentations this year.   One of which is the change happening in the ebook and learning management system spaces.  To name a few the LMS Canvas has some buzz, Follet continues to try to perfect the etextbook, and the University of Florida College of Education has come up with an innovative and interesting approach to the limitations of the traditional LMS, which it calls Purlieu.  What I keep hoping for is a more organic, authentic learning space that simultaneously tackles the offline mobile space and etexts.

If any of my students in EME2040 want to do their paper on Canvas, Purlieu, and the change and innovations happening with learning management systems, I will give you up to 500 points for your paper versus 440.  To make this fair also, anyone who has already done their paper may try for the extra 60 points by doing a two page paper on the same topic.

Ok, great to be back in Jacksonville, and on to grading your work.  :)
