About Me

I am at Florida State College Jacksonville in the Office of Learning Services. I lead the custom learning solutions for our new small business unit Global Education Learning Solutions GLS. I enjoy presenting at various conferences on my work and research interests. Currently I am very interested in mobile e-books, immersive exploratory learning objects, offline synchronizing LMS technologies, and situated cognition. Additionally, I am experimenting with ways immersive virtual environments such as Second Life may be used to support teaching and learning. One fascinating book I recommend for those interested in virtual worlds is Synthetic Worlds by Edward Castronova. Last year I completed a multiple case study exploring student learning experiences with mobile e-books, with a particular focus on situated learning and am interested in the learning applications of social media.....

Case Study Group Project/Adapted Lesson Plan EEX4231

FYI Students in EEX4231-Asses Chd W/sp Needs-352327

Group Project/Adapted Lesson Plan
There will be one group project in the course. You will be responsible for organizing yourselves into groups of 5 to 8 to complete the group project. You will self-select in to groups using the group forum discussion board. This is also where you all will communicate about the project and where you will post the final version for me to grade. Good Luck! Dr K

You will be given a case student and learn to modify a group lesson plan to include a child with disabilities by designing a lesson plan with accommodations or modifications for meaningful inclusion. This will be posted in the group discussion forum.

How the Virtual Tutoring Commons works

Students, good news, there are new online tutor and and online learning commons resources now available to you. Please take advantage of these valuable resources!! Dr K

***************
Details Here:

How the Virtual Tutoring Commons works

The online tutoring program here at Open Campus allows you the student to receive free assistance from our tutors using the internet. Many students are unable to set appointments with on-campus tutors due to time issues, their work, or travel problems. Therefore we have provided you with tutors who use a couple of online tools in order to assist you with your college work. The tutors can talk to you instantly online using Skype or G-mail. Both of these programs are free and can be downloaded onto your computer in a matter of minutes.

Skype is a free program that has a screen sharing tool which allows the tutor to see your computer screen. This means that you can pull up your assignment and the tutor can assist you as if you were both sitting in the same room. There is an instructional video for Skype which is available on the Open Campus Student Success Forum Blackboard Community. Feel free to add yourself to the community as it is a great resource for online students. To join our Open Campus Community: Go to Blackboard/Click on “Community” tab/Click on “Open Campus Student Success Forum.” Or you can click on this link to view the video: http://tinyurl.com/FSCJSKYPETut.

G-mail has an instant messaging feature that allows you to email your assignment to the tutor and to chat with him/her instantly.

Who can use it?

All Open Campus students may use the Virtual Tutoring Commons. Currently we are only offering a writing tutor, however in the future there will be additional subject areas covered. You must have a valid Florida State College at Jacksonville email address in order to schedule an appointment. At the beginning of your first session with the tutor you will be asked to verify that you have an FSCJ email account. This is to ensure that students from outside of the college are not utilizing our services.

How do I set up an appointment?

In order to schedule an appointment you must visit this link http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22CKCM4PNGA/ and fill out all of the fields. Once you have submitted the form the coordinator will send you an email as soon as possible. This email will contain a time and date for your appointment based off of the information you have provided. Please have your Gmail account or Skype account installed, open, and be logged in. The tutor will add you as a contact based off of the screen-name that you provided. You only have to accept the invitation once since Gmail or Skype will save the tutor as a contact. The tutor will then introduce his/herself and begin the session.

When are the tutors available?

The tutoring schedule is:

Sundays through Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM

If you have any questions or comments you may contact Chris Bickerstaff at cbickers@fscj.edu.

Epsilen Technical Problems.....

Summer EEX4201 AND 4301 Students,

Apparently there are some technical issues going on now with Epsilen. I am hoping this will be resolved today, but please be patient. Remember, you should have already self-selected into your groups by now and begun working in them. Have a good week!

Group Projects EEX4201Jeffkiss EEX4231Jeffkiss

Summer students,

Update on group projects, each course now has a specific "Group Projects" discussion forum where you all will work from. In it you will self-select into groups of 5 to 8, communicate, plan, and eventually post your final group projects for me. Good luck, and get creative! Dr K

Welcome Summer Classes

Hello all in EEX4201 and EEX4231, I have been reading all your introduction posts in the Epsilen forums and it sounds like we have a great group here. I also have seen that there quite a few of you who are taking both of these courses. Here are a couple tips for success: 1. do not fall behind, 2. use the syllabus due dates to plan your week, 3. stay current each week in reading and posting often in the discussion forums. Remember that the quizzes are designed for you to master the content, so you are free to take them multiple times until you reach the highest score you like. Challenge? :) Have fun and make sure to stay on top of your text readings and begin collecting articles for your literature review [EEX4201 only].
