About Me

I am at Florida State College Jacksonville in the Office of Learning Services. I lead the custom learning solutions for our new small business unit Global Education Learning Solutions GLS. I enjoy presenting at various conferences on my work and research interests. Currently I am very interested in mobile e-books, immersive exploratory learning objects, offline synchronizing LMS technologies, and situated cognition. Additionally, I am experimenting with ways immersive virtual environments such as Second Life may be used to support teaching and learning. One fascinating book I recommend for those interested in virtual worlds is Synthetic Worlds by Edward Castronova. Last year I completed a multiple case study exploring student learning experiences with mobile e-books, with a particular focus on situated learning and am interested in the learning applications of social media.....

ITC eLearn & NACTC Long Beach

Just got back from conferences in Long Beach California, and it sure was a great experience.   At ITC eLearn there were some innovative approaches Sinclair Community College shared for online, interactive virtual labs that our faculty found promising.   One aspect that I found nice was the fact that they had built some mobile learning applications for these labs.  Nice work...

My Florida State College at Jacksonville team [Global Learning Solutions GLS] received an award for outstanding and effective use of technology for one of our mobile course designs we did for deployed Navy students.   The team worked hard on this and I was very appreciative and grateful to receive the award for their hard work and dedication.

Lastly, we had a chance to visit the Long Beach Aquarium and La Brea Tar Pits [images below] which was a first for all of us.  What a great learning experience!  I have to say the traffic in LA was horrible, but I would come back to Long Beach anytime!  It was great to see people, young and old, speeding around on skateboards everywhere.  :)
